The original house was built circa 1860 although it has been changed over time. The barn has retained much of its original character including stone walls and old beams. There is no doubting the charm of the village of Generest, an idyllic rural French community with traditional houses and wonderful valley view.
Generest is a great base to explore the surrounding area.Unspoilt countryside filled with wildlife such as red squirrel-various species of eagles and migrating birds-rare alpine wildflowersand butterflies.
Mountains ideal for walking-climbing-cycling-skiing or try the new trend of racquetteson Cap Nistos, our neighbouring village.Lakes,rivers and waterfalls perfect for fishing-rafting or picnics.Gavarnie is the highest waterfallin Europe and not to be missed!There are many places of interest such as Pic du Midi-a fantasticobsrevatorywhich can only be reached by cable car.Grottes de Gargas are prehistoric caves within walking distance of the Gites.Regular tours are given.St Bertrand de Comminges is a roman town close to Generest.
It is built up a steep hilside and the small cobbled streets wind there way round many cafes and handicraft shops leading to a magnificent 12th century cathedral.

Other interests in the area include 2 very good golf coarses with mountain views.Also the Tour de France passes through our neighbouring town of St Gaudens on 12th July this year.
In the village itself,there is an excellent charcutterie which producesfresh duck-venison-wild boar ect.Plus the best foie gras you will ever taste.
Boar hunting is a weekly activity from October to January and newcomers are always welcome to join in!
There is also a very lively Fete held in the village square over 3 days and nights at the end of July.(Great fun for the younger villagers and holidaymakers)
